“Son of man, what is this proverb you people have about the land of Israel, which goes, ‘The days keep passing by, and every vision fails’? Therefore say to them, ‘This is what the Lord God says: I will put a stop to this proverb, and they will not use it again in Israel.’ But say to them, ‘The days have arrived, as well as the fulfillment of every vision.” -Ezekiel 12:22-23
I’m working my way through Ezekiel. Some want to write the book off as too harsh, too focused on punishment and judgment.
I’m not one of those people.
I need for God to shoot straight with me.
How about you?
I believe that at our core our human nature wants to believe that there are no consequences for our rebellious actions. So we choose to see God as a benevolent grandfather who loves us too much to do anything to us. He may say something from time-to-time, but none of his warnings are headed because, He’s “Gramps“.
In Ezekiel 12 God is lovingly warning us that His name is not “Gramps” but instead is The Lord God Almighty.
It’s as if He’s saying …
“Please don’t confuse my patience with passivity, my inactivity with impotence; my threats are not false, your prophets are. Everything I’ve promised will take place.”
Oh my.
_______
— Am I turning a deaf ear and a blind eye to what God has made plain?
— Am I self-deceived in my rebellion that even though God is aware there will be no penalty?
_______
O God, thank You for your immeasurable grace and mercy that You have lavished on me.
From this moment forward may it not be without effect. May it not be in vain. May it not be empty. (1 Corinthians 15:10)
I love You, Jesus. Please help me to love You more. Amen.
