A Four-Lettered Word

1–2 minutes

In Mark 5 Jesus sets a man free. The guy’s life had been worse than a mess, but now he has his life back. Better than that, he now knows the Source of Life, Jesus.
So, he wants to stay with Jesus.
And Jesus says, “No.”
Jesus declines the man’s request. And it wasn’t because the request was bad. It was a good request, actually a great one. But Jesus still said, “No.”
There are times we need to say, “No” too.
It’s hard. It feels uncaring. Unloving. But unless we do we won’t be able to care and love.
Refusing to say, “No” leaves no margin in our lives, no white space, no room for rest. Not saying, “No” leaves the Lord no room to fill us with what we need to care and love.
Jesus said, “No.”

I want to care and I want to love.
I know you do too.
“No” is not a four-lettered word. What do you say we stop treating it as such?
